Transforming Our Mind

When things go wrong in our life and we encounter difficult situations, we tend to regard the situation itself as our problem, but in reality whatever problems we experience come from the side of the mind. If we were to respond to difficult situations with a positive or peaceful mind they would not be problems for us; indeed, we may even come to regard them as challenges or opportunities for growth and development. Problems arise only if we respond to difficulties with a negative state of mind. Therefore, if we want to be free from problems, we much transform our mind.

Inner Peace Meditation Retreat

The Inner Peace Meditation Retreat was held from January 31 to February 2, 2014 at the DAP Conference Center at Tagaytay City with Buddhist monk Gen Kelsang Rabten. Gen Rabten is the NKT-IKBU National Spiritual Director for New Zealand and Australia and the Resident Teacher of KMC Hong Kong. He is a pure disciple who has trained under the guidance of his Spiritual Guide Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso for nearly 20 years. At the moment, he is also the visiting teacher for Manila. This retreat—Inner Peace Meditation Retreat—was a practical guide to meditation that will teach the participants how to make themselves and others happy by developing inner peace. According to Gen Rabten, "Without inner peace there is no real happiness at all. Problems, suffering and unhappiness do not exist outside the mind; they are feelings and thus part of our mind. Therefore, it is only from within our mind that we can permanently stop our problems and make ourself and others truly happy. Buddha taught a sequence of meditation that show us a step by step path to this lasting inner peace and freedom."
